How I make it.
These are the questions I get asked most at the tent, written out in full. If you want to know which beeswax you need or why I only render tallow twice, it's here.
Beeswax
Which of the two grades you need and how much to buy. Then how to melt it down without burning it.

Buying Beeswax by the Pound in Idaho
I sell beeswax by the pound in the Treasure Valley. Which grade you need, how much a batch takes, what it costs, and how to melt it without wrecking it.

Filtered or Unfiltered Beeswax?
Filtered beeswax for candles and anything on skin, unfiltered for polish and waxed canvas. What's in unfiltered wax and when it matters.
How Much Beeswax Do You Need?
One pound of beeswax fills about four 4 oz candles. The table for candles, balms and salves, plus the five to ten percent you lose in the pot.
Melting Beeswax Without Ruining It
Beeswax melts at about 145°F and discolors for good above 185°F. Use a double boiler, never a direct flame, and stir it. What to do if it catches.
Waxing Canvas and Leather With Beeswax
Beeswax for waxed canvas and leather. Which grade to buy, the ratios people actually use, how to melt it in, and how much a pound of wax will cover.
Beeswax on Wood, Boards and Butcher Block
Beeswax as a wood finish. The board butter ratio, why mineral oil and not olive oil, how often to redo a board, and which grade of wax to buy for it.
Tallow
How I render it and what goes in the jar. There are no essential oils in it, and I'll tell you why.

Why We Render the Tallow Twice
Most tallow gets rendered four or five times to get the beef smell out. I render it twice and steep it in vanilla beans instead. Here's why.

Why I Stopped Making Scented Tallow
I used to make scented tallow and I stopped. The lotion has no essential oils now, so it's safe on a newborn and safe on your face in the sun.
What's Actually in the Lotion
Seven things go in our tallow lotion, and every one has a job. Tallow, vanilla bean, calendula, jojoba, castor, beeswax, and arrowroot added last.
Whipped Tallow or Tallow Balm?
Whipped tallow is airy and often greasy. A balm is firm. Mine is whipped and emulsified, which is a third thing. How to tell which one you're buying.
Will Tallow Clog Your Pores?
Tallow rates about 2 on the comedogenic scale, and that number isn't the whole answer. What's in the jar, who it suits, and who should go slowly.
Honey
What raw and unfiltered mean and where the hives sit. Also what I tell people who ask about allergies.

Raw, Unfiltered, Never Heated
Raw and unfiltered aren't regulated words. What they mean on our jars, what a strainer does that a filter doesn't, and how to check any honey yourself.

Why Our Hives Sit on Organic Farms
All 500 or so of our hives sit on organic farms around the Treasure Valley, by agreement with the farmer. Why I do it that way and what it costs me.
Does Local Honey Help Allergies?
The evidence says no, and I sell local honey. Why the theory doesn't hold up, what the trials found, and what honey is actually good for.
When Honey Turns Solid
Honey that turns solid hasn't gone bad. Raw honey crystallizes, and it's the easiest everyday sign that nobody filtered it fine and heated it.
If you just want to buy some
