Whipped Tallow Lotion
Whipped tallow lotion with no essential oils in it. Grass-fed tallow from farms around the Treasure Valley, rendered twice instead of the usual four or five times, then steeped in organic vanilla beans. Safe on a newborn and safe on your face in the sun. $25 for a 4 oz jar, $15 for a 2 oz tube.
Most people render tallow four or five times to get the smell out. I do it twice, because the good stuff comes out early and every extra pass takes some of it with the smell. Then I steep it in organic vanilla beans. People say it smells like cake.
No essential oils. I used to make scented ones and I stopped. I put this on the baby and on my own face before I go out in the sun.
The 4 oz jar is the one to keep by the bed. The 2 oz tube is the same lotion with a little more beeswax in it, so it firms up. That one goes in the diaper bag.

Questions people ask
- Why only two renders?
- Most people render four or five times to get the beef smell out. The most nutrient-dense part of the tallow comes off in the first couple of passes, so every render after that takes some of the good out with the smell. I stop at two and cover the rest with vanilla.
- What is actually in it?
- Grass-fed tallow rendered twice, organic vanilla bean, calendula, organic jojoba oil, organic castor oil, a little of our own beeswax, and organic arrowroot powder at the end so the castor oil doesn't leave you greasy. Same recipe every batch.
- Do you make the scented ones any more?
- No. I stopped making them to keep it safe for everyone who uses it, including newborns and pregnant moms. Essential oils can also make your skin photosensitive, and I want people to be able to wear this out in the sun.
- What is the difference between the jar and the tube?
- Same lotion. The 2 oz tube has a little more beeswax in it so it firms up enough to push out of the tube. The 4 oz is a jar.
